AFTER TEN YEARS OF DROUGHT, KAIZER CHIEFS BROUGHT NEDBANK CUP HOME

Kaizer Chiefs got off to a good start in their Nedbank cup with a commanding 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida stadium on 10 May. The champions indicated their intent to defend their cup successful, with a first half goal which was a penalty from Gaston Sirino.

 Sirino’s leading goal from 10th minutes. His self-possessed goal did not only set the tone for the game but also encourage other players, giving fans and players the hope that regardless of what people have been saying about them, they are going fight for their cup.

Orlando Pirates maintained a persistent pressure and just after 17 after Sirinos opener, Evidence Makgopa made an equaliser resulting the match to end 1-1 in the first half.

The second half saw Kaizer chiefs skilfully control the games tempo and manage their game with confidence while they were making sure that there are not making any mistakes. After kaizer Chiefs has been knocking with no luck, the coach decided to take a risk by taking Thabo Cele out and replace him with Mfundo Obrigado Vilakazi. He was the game changer, putting more pressure on Orlando Pirates and that resulted in Yusuf Maart scoring a fantastic goal that made Amakhosi to be the 2025 Nedbank Cup champions.

Yousuf Maart the first captain to lead Kaizer to glory after decades and he was also the Nedbank man of the match, he highlighted that without the support of the supporters and his teammates they wouldn’t have done it, so he’s grateful for the support and the love they always receive to their fans.
